Lesson 5
Bodies Change
An age-appropriate introduction to puberty framed as something to understand and look forward to, not fear. Physical and emotional changes are covered for all body types together, normalizing that everyone goes through puberty at a different pace.

Key Ideas

  • Puberty is when the body begins to grow and change from a kid's body to an adult body.
  • It usually starts between ages 8 and 16, and everyone's timeline is different.
  • Bodies with vulvas often develop breast buds, pubic hair, and eventually periods.
  • Bodies with penises often develop larger testicles, pubic hair, and a deeper voice.
  • Everyone grows taller, sweats more, and may get pimples.
  • Puberty is not the same for everyone and it does not happen all at once.
  • It is okay to feel excited, confused, or nervous about puberty.
