Lesson 4
My Body Belongs to Me
Body autonomy is framed as empowering, not just protective. Kids learn what makes something private, the difference between safe and unsafe touch, and that they are the boss of their own body.

Key Ideas

  • Your body belongs to you and only you.
  • Private parts are called private because they are personal, not because they are shameful.
  • There is a difference between safe touch (hugs you want), unsafe touch (touch that hurts), and unwanted touch (touch you do not want even if it does not hurt).
  • It is always okay to say no to any touch you do not want, even from someone you love.
  • Only doctors with a parent or guardian present may need to check private parts for health reasons.
  • You get to decide what privacy looks like for your body as you grow.
